The Socialist Commune El Panal 2021, in the parish of 23 de Enero in Caracas, held this Sunday an election day to renew the spokespersons of its eight Communal Councils, in a process that counted with national and international accompaniment.
A total of 5,573 votes from the Communal Councils Central, Agape, Abriendo Caminos, 1ra. Fuerza, Reivindicación, David Navarro, Cambodia, and Santa Rosa, were summoned to the electoral event. A total of 283 male and female candidates were measured.
“There is a registry in the automated system. You can verify the postulate with the position […] It is a simple process. The community has been enthusiastic to participate in this vote to elect or reelect the postulates”, said Golfa Flores, representative of the Socialist Commune El Panal 2021.
Ana Caona, also a member of the Commune, emphasized that in this process new leaderships are encouraged and, all the political forces in the territory are reunited, implementing the exercise of participative and protagonist democracy.
“The true protagonist is the neighbor who has citizen awareness, community awareness,” added the leader.
The President of the Republic, Nicolas Maduro, has urged during the last weeks the Popular Power to renew the spokespersons of all the Communal Councils of the country to advance in a new stage of communal government.
National and international observation
The elections in the Comuna El Panal 2021 were accompanied by authorities of the Venezuelan Government, the National Electoral Council (CNE), and a group of international delegates.
The People’s Power Minister for Communes and Social Movements, Jorge Arreaza, congratulated the voters for their commitment during this election day.
“We visited the eight voting points accompanied by CNE personnel and several international observers. Mobilized people! Direct, Protagonist and Radical Democracy!” highlighted the head of the communal office through his Twitter account @jaarreaza.
Jhon Keiler, head of the National Office of Citizen Participation of the CNE, explained the phases of the electoral process in this Socialist Commune. “They were given a technical accessory workshop and their cotillion containing the safeguard box. It is part of the work carried out by the Electoral Power throughout the country. We support the Popular Power as indicated by the Organic Law of the Communal Councils.”
Coming from the United States and a militant of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, Jordan Woll described the voting process as simple and successful.
“We have observed the facilities and the inhabitants have the responsibility to participate, the first time we have seen such an advanced process with high technology,” highlighted the international observer.
On the other hand, the Vice Minister for Communal and Social Organization and Participation of the Ministry of People’s Power for Communes and Social Movements, César Carrero, affirmed that during the day, the entire process was complied with as indicated by the Law.
“It is part of the organization of the Popular Power. We are heading towards an electoral party where spokesmen and spokeswomen of different Committees organized from a communal plan of this sector will be elected,” he added.
