Caracas, October 20, 2023 (Press Mincomunas) – On Friday, commemorating the 11th anniversary of the Rudder Around (Golpe de Timón), a massive event took place at the Poliedro de Caracas, during which Barbara Martinez, spokesperson of the Socialist Commune El Panal 2021, stated that the People’s Power in Venezuela exercises radical democracy and this year managed to renew the spokespersonships in more than 32 thousand Communal Councils throughout the national territory.
During the activity, led by President Nicolas Maduro, Martinez highlighted that “the People’s Power is renewed and counted, we went to secret and universal systematized elections, and we elected the spokespersons of the financial units and the Working Committees.”
He highlighted that more than 1,300,000,000 legitimized spokespersons say “yes to the Commune” and this new governing way.
In this context, President Nicolas Maduro affirmed that today, the revolutionary Government can render accounts to the country: “Of the 49 thousand Communal Councils that exist in Venezuela, 32 thousand 500 Communal Councils have already held their elections directly, secretly, with the support of the National Electoral Council (CNE), a great achievement of radical democracy”.
Communal leader Barbara Martinez clarified that the spokespersons not only stayed in the electoral process but are working in the streets, in the territory, to keep the assembly spirit alive and in motion. “We are grassroots leaders, we do not believe in monarchy, we do not believe in kings, we do not believe in the owners of the territory, we believe in situational and collective leaderships to make government in the territory.”
He stated that the communal subject “must be formed in the community, in the field, in the stairway, in the corner” to comply with the guidelines of the Rudder Around. “We have to assume the means of production, produce our wealth to distribute it, and make the people of Bolivar and the people of Chavez happier.”
The first step of socialism is direct democracy.
President Maduro acknowledged the hard work carried out by these people who renewed their spokespersonships and who “are walking the streets, the community, the alley, knocking on doors, calling meetings and listening to the people to create their Concrete Action Agenda (ACA) and the Map of Solutions,” to materialize the projects and works required by the community.
He emphasized that the contribution made by Commander Chavez to advance in this new stage was to build the concept of socialism at the territorial, communal, and neighborhood levels.
The Chief of State invited the People’s Power to build the values of the homeland, of democracy beyond the formal representation: a direct and true democracy.
More than 12 thousand spokesmen and spokeswomen of the People’s Power from the 23 states of the country and the Capital District attended the event to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the Rudder Around.
