Atilio Boron: Capitalist civilization practices the greatest genocide known in human history

MinCommunas Press – For the Argentine sociologist and political scientist Atilio Boron, the predatory nature of capitalism, exacerbated in its current phase, has led the world to deprive three-quarters of humanity of its means of life and to the destruction of the nature that makes possible the sustenance of all life.

“Another world has been called for across the planet in recent years, based on the clear awareness that the present world is unbearable because of its injustice and predatory nature. This world is the result of the capitalist civilization that, like the monster of the most frightening allegories, devours its children, exhausts its resources and destroys, irreparably, the non-human nature that our species needs to survive”, said the researcher.

According to Professor Atilio Boron, “Capitalist civilization, in the name of efficiency, rationality, and progress, practices the greatest genocide known in human history.”

“Every year, 40 million people die of hunger and curable diseases. The great social movements that today question the genocidal practice of capitalism towards humanity and nature do so from the conviction that this ‘another world’ is not only possible but also necessary and urgent,” said the sociologist.
