Venezuela joined the Continental Front of Communal Organizations during a meeting in Cuba

Havana, Cuba, September 29, 2023 (Press Mincomunas) – On Friday, the People’s Power Ministry for Communes and Social Movements incorporated Venezuela’s communal organizations into the Continental Front of Communal Organizations (FCOC), which held a meeting in Havana, Cuba, in the context of the participation in the 10th Congress of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) in the Caribbean island.

“The incorporation of Venezuela in this continental front, I think it will be an interesting contribution as well as for us it will be to know the rest of the experiences” of other countries, considered Minister Jorge Arreaza, who pointed out that since the conception bequeathed by Commander Hugo Chávez, the strategic project of the Bolivarian Revolution is to deliver power to the organized people.

He affirmed that the revolutionary Government has always proposed Latin American unity, all the initiatives for the peoples of Our America to organize themselves, to have work, solidarity, and production networks in all fields, and also to create the conditions to receive power are good news.

During the meeting, the Venezuelan Vice-Minister for Communal and Social Organization and Participation, Cesar Carrero, explained the national reality regarding the issue of organizations, detailing that there are two levels: the fundamental cell, the Communal Councils, and form the Communes, which are additional to the political territorial division, “that is why our legislation contemplates them and they form a fourth level of government: national, regional, municipal and communal.”

He pointed out that Venezuela has 49 thousand Communal Councils and 3 thousand 600 Communes, which are currently undergoing a reconfiguration through a debate in the National Assembly on the Law of Communes reform.

The Vice Minister considered the exchange of experiences among the organizations of the Front to be able to make concrete experiences visible, for example, in the productive field or in the search for solutions to the problems of services or social issues, which are at the center of the agenda of the Communal Councils in Venezuela.

Pedro Vázquez González, Permanent Executive Secretary of the FCOC, raised the need to address the communication issue, which he proposed to solve through a platform to hold virtual meetings at least every three months. He also stated that the Front’s web portal is active and open to add the information sent by the countries.

Representing Cuba, Julia Durruty Molina, deputy national coordinator of the CDRs, said that 63 years after the creation of these structures by Comandante Fidel Castro, they are now adapting their content to the work priorities that the country requires today, which is precisely all the social and preventive work “that we are developing, the revolutionary popular vigilance itself and the work in the care of our children, adolescents and young people, because not only the future of the organization but the future of the homeland depends on them. We are present in each of the tasks of the Revolution”.

Finally, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, national coordinator of the CDRs, added that “our purpose is that this meeting grows, that there are more and more representatives. We reiterate our commitment to continue contributing to the FCOC and, above all, to that movement of solidarity with Cuba, which makes us so proud, and our revolution needs to move forward”.
