International activists call for solidarity action in unity with Cuba

Havana, Cuba, September 29, 2023 (Press MinComunas) – Following the 10th Congress of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution in Havana, Cuba, an emotional solidarity meeting brought together prominent international activists.

Venezuela’s Minister of Communes and Social Movements, Jorge Arreaza, headed the list of committed spokespersons who shared their perspectives on the current siege situation.

Fernando Gonzalez, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), denounced the economic and commercial aggression suffered by Cuba, underlining the hypocrisy of keeping it on a list of countries under pressure without legal arguments. González highlighted the importance of international solidarity not only as an active presence but also through direct condemnations. “The only fight is lost is the one we abandon,” he said.

Pedro Vasquez of Mexico praised the resistance against the blockade and highlighted the relevance of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution. He advocated the creation of inclusive and participatory neighborhoods, promoting activities that strengthen unity and make it possible to confront the economic and financial blockade.

“You, comrades, work to achieve a neighborhood conducive to a climate of community debate,” he added.

Meanwhile, Antonio Rodriguez Avellaneda, representative of the Noubarri Brigade of Barcelona, Spain, shared concrete advanced actions in health matters, including delivering a container with medical supplies and medicines to the Caribbean nation.

He also announced future visits, emphasizing the importance of overcoming international barriers and taking the commitment to the Cuban Revolution beyond words.

For his part, Minister Jorge Arreaza related the aggressions that Cuba and Venezuela have faced and the similarities in the tactics of imperialism. He recalled the struggle for the Five Heroes and emphasized the worldwide impact of these actions.

“The Five Heroes are a symbol of world resistance (…) In five years, they applied to us everything done to Cuba in several decades,” he said.

Finally, Julio Faravelli, representative of Uruguay, with words filled with urgency, called for action and active solidarity among nations.

At 78 years old and with a past of resistance that led him to prison, Faravelli spoke of the need for words to come to life internationally. “What is important to us is that when there is a meeting like this, we don’t want just a speech.”
