For the Mexican professor and philosopher Katya Colmenares, communication is a way of being in life. It means putting into action what is ordinary. It is putting oneself in a community, relating, and leaving singularity.
“Life implies communication. It implies becoming common. However, communication is not exclusive to human beings. Plants and animals also communicate. But it is, in fact, life that communicates, and it is precisely in this communication that it develops and reproduces itself. It is an intrinsic part of itself,” said the researcher.
According to Katya Colmenares, lack of communication is what dynamites the cohesion of a community in particular. “Communication implies making and producing community. Lack of communication implies giving way to death. When communication is lacking, a relationship ends. In communication, there is life. The communicated content is the life that wants to live; that is to say, life comes out of itself to say what it needs and provide what it can give.”
According to the Mexican philosopher, “It is necessary to think about communication as opposed to socialization. We must place these two concepts in opposition to think about how to develop instruments that allow communication to produce environments where community is possible.”
Colmenares reiterated that socializing ideas is not the same as communicating ideas. “Communicating implies advancing in common; socializing ideas means imposing one vision over the others. In communication, there is a dialogue, a reciprocity, a construction of the common”.
The professor insisted that the meaning of communication is the reproduction of life, “that is why we want to communicate. In other words, communication does not have an end in itself. Communication is at the service of life.
