From Sabaneta to Bolivia: Comuna Centinela shows agrarian potential to Evo Morales

Barinas, August 5, 2023 (Mincomunas Press) – This Saturday, the former president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, and the People’s Power Minister for Communes and Social Movements, Jorge Arreaza, met with the Centinela Commune, in the Alberto Arvelo Torrealba municipality of Barinas state, to learn about the productive potential of the territory.

Minister Arreaza stated during his visit that the members of the Communes and small producers work on these lands.

“Here, we can observe great potentialities that prove that the people organize themselves as a government. The community members of Sabaneta de Barinas use agroecology as a fundamental tool for production. This Commune is free from many ties of capitalism in terms of seeds, land, transportation, and stockpiling, and little by little is building its own Communal Economic Circuit”.

In this sense, Alexander Camacho, Mayor of the Alberto Arvelo Torrealba Municipality, thanked the presence of the former President of Bolivia and highlighted that the people of Sabaneta, especially the Centinela Commune, are organized to build and move forward as instructed by Commander Hugo Chavez.

“From the grassroots and with the support of the Federal Council of Government (CFG) and the Ministry of Communes, the People’s Power organized has executed important projects such as the construction of a water well, a Simoncito, and the rehabilitation of the ambulatory and the IDC Jose Gregorio Hernandez.”

He specified that the Centinela Commune has 11 Communal Councils, 1,900 families and 6,275 inhabitants.

On his part, Evo Morales acknowledged the work carried out by Commander Chávez in Venezuela and the fact that the communal struggle mobilizes to achieve relevant changes to empower the people and satisfy the needs of the most vulnerable.

The indigenous leader commented that Bolivia had been attacked and persecuted by the government of the United States and that terrible massacres were committed to dominate and prevent the people’s rebellion.
