Caracas, March 20, 2023 (Presidential Press Office) – “We have assumed a vertical, frontal, absolute position in the fight against corruption and the corrupt, against those who steal from the people wherever they are, wherever they come from.”
The statement corresponds to Nicolas Maduro, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, who insisted on ending corruption mafias embedded in significant sectors of the economic, judicial, and political Venezuelan apparatus.
“An investigation that has taken weeks and that I have personally carried out (…) and we have dealt this first blow to the mafias, and I have the absolute will and decision to go to the root to dismember all these mafias that we have discovered”, sentenced the also president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
During a meeting with the Extended Political Bureau of the Bolivarian Revolution, from the Waraira Repano National Park, in Caracas, the Head of State highlighted that the investigation process began between October and November 2022 “when different sources were arriving. The first preliminary results of the inquiries made, the first discoveries that were throwing important clues of the mechanisms of operation of these mafias”.
In this sense, he added that this first phase of the special operation allowed to establish investigation fronts, as well as responsibilities “clear and direct, unequivocal on the part of officials and businessmen” involved in acts of corruption, to which it is necessary to proceed immediately to punish these criminal acts, these acts of banditry, of mafias, of fraud.”
Finally, he pointed out that relevant judges “with high positions investigated for favoring drug traffickers, criminals, and paramilitaries with sentences in their favor. Some of the information of these cases has already come out, addressed with the start of this direct operation against corruption”, he concluded.
