A Cooperation program meeting between MST of Brazil and the Ministry of Communes

San Juan de Los Morros, Guarico state, February 27, 2023 (Press Mincomunas) – This Monday, began a meeting of the cooperation program of the Strategic Political Alliance between the Landless Movement (MST) of Brazil and the People’s Power Ministry for Communes and Social Movements of Venezuela at the Alcaravan Electronic Complex of Technological Systems, in San Juan de Los Morros, Guarico state.

Cesar Carrero, Vice Minister for Communal and Social Organization and Participation, highlighted the diversity and the participants’ profiles in the territory. He extended greetings from President Nicolas Maduro and Minister Jorge Arreaza in this first international activity that is taking place in Alcaravan, inaugurated in 2021.

He recognized the “coherence and constancy in the revolutionary militancy” of the MST, who resisted the previous government of the ultra-right-wing Jair Bolsonaro and never turned their back on Venezuela. At the same time, he predicted that “we will surely deepen many things hand in hand with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.”

Carrero recalled that the idea of the alliance arose from an instruction from President Nicolas Maduro to replicate in Venezuela the harvesting experience of rice in Brazil shown in Telesur’s program. Minister Arreaza suggested that it should be in Guarico, with Alcaravan, to incorporate the technological element. Then, it was raised to a videoconference with Joao Pedro Stédile, one of the founders of the Movement in the neighboring country, who said that the most important thing is to deepen the peoples’ alliances.

The Vice Minister pointed out that in the case of Venezuela, the popular organizations of the revolution, building the Bolivarian, revolutionary and socialist model, are the Communal Councils and the Communes.

The installation program included a presentation on the history and trajectory of the MST by Simone Magalhaes, ambassador of the Brazilian organization in Venezuela, and a presentation on Alcaravan and a tour of the facilities by the president of the complex, Joali Moreno.

The cooperation program between the MST and the communal portfolio includes the knowledge for upgrading processes exchange to consolidate productive and technological advances in the Communes. It determines the training needs and elements contemplated in the MPPCMS.

In 2014, the People’s Power Ministry for Communes and Social Movements signed a memorandum of understanding with the Landless Rural Workers Movement of Brazil, resulting in an alliance for the continuous improvement of organizational practices for production, promoting articulation between people with the use of appropriate and appropriable technology.
