Merida, August 8, 2023. Press Mincomunas/Karina Depablos. With more than 16,000 kilos of food produced in the communes “Che” Guevara of Tucani and Paso de Bolivar 1803 of Apartaderos, Merida state, the communal truck started up, a new community transport that mobilizes the products to the collection center of El Maizal Commune, in Lara state, to distribute in some areas of the west and east of the country.
According to Gerardo Rivas, a spokesman for the Paso de Bolivar 1803 Commune, the new communal truck began its journey with 8,000 kilos of potatoes, 5,000 kilos of coffee, and 2,200 kilos of cocoa, produced by the men and women of the towns of Apartaderos and Tucani, in Merida.
“We are proud to begin the route of the new communal truck with the fruit of the great work of the Communal Economic Circuits of Potato, Coffee, and Cocoa of these Andean moors. Our production will reach the collection center of El Maizal and, from there, to other communes of the country. It is an exchange that guarantees the common welfare. It is an exchange that guarantees food for the people. It is food sovereignty”, he explained.
The communal spokesman added that the Communal truck would receive, as part of the exchange with El Maizal, corn flour, papelon, rice, sardines, black beans, and oil, among other primary food products, which will generate welfare for more than 250 Merida families from Tucaní, Apartaderos, Mucuchíes, and Jají.
“This is a first phase. We send products from the paramo and receive products from the El Maizal collection center from Lara state and many communities in several states. The next step is to add the meat, milk, and cheese circuits. We want to integrate the state of Barinas because of its geographical proximity. It is a giant step for us. This effective exchange between communities means a lot,” said Rivas.
Rivas pointed out that the frequency of transportation of the new communal truck will depend on the production and work of the community men and women and on the harvest times of the territories.
