Realizan taller sobre el Esequibo y gobernanza comunitaria en Apure

Workshop on the Essequibo and community governance in Apure

Apure, November 24, 2023 (Mincomunas Press). – At the Ezequiel Zamora Bolivarian High School in San Fernando Parish, Apure State, there was a workshop focused on the Essequibo and the Cuadernillo de la Ruta del Poder Popular (the People’s Power Route Booklet).

The meeting brought together diverse actors, including the Learning Community of the UBCH Training College, the People’s Power Strengthening Training Nucleus, and the Neighborhood Youth Node of the Los Tamarindos Commune, composed of nine Communal Councils.

The meeting, headed by experts such as Oscar Urriola, Frearluva Parra, Hortensia Leon, and Alexon Lopez, was immersed in the analysis of the five questions on the people’s consultation of the Essequibo and provided valuable inputs for the strengthening of democracy through the booklet of the People’s Power Route.

The Vice Minister for the System of Communal Formation and Social Movements, Lídice Altuve, a central figure in this event, emphasized the need to formalize the Communes for effective governance.

“This Commune has to be formalized. It is not enough to do the election. It is not enough to have renamed the Communal Council. To be a government, it has to be formal.”

These words highlight the importance of structuring and legitimizing community structures for the full exercise of local power.

“The answer is always in the people. This workshop is a living example of the richness and wisdom that the community brings to its self-government.”

In addition, Altuve stressed the relevance of diverse participation in community decisions.

“The education committees are part of that core. Professor Giovanni, I have spoken with Rector Richard, and the Learning Community is a natural space. Because that’s where you have people who are studying who discuss the management of the Community,” he said.

This workshop stood out as a model of exchange and community training, where public servants, educators, and young people could contribute and enrich the local panorama in a joint effort to promote People’s Power in the region.
