Caracas, November 20, 2023 (Mincomunas Press). – In support of the consultative referendum on December 3, the Ministry of Communes and Social Movements workers and its attached entities attended the forum “Guayana Esequiba: Peace and Sovereignty” this Monday at the ministerial headquarters with the participation of a professor and historian Anabel Diaz Ache; the Vice Minister of the Communal Training System and Social Movements, Lidice Altuve; and the Vice Minister of Social Movements, Fernando Jose Rodriguez.
During the forum, Professor Anabel Diaz Ach praised the position Venezuelans are taking, who have demonstrated that “national unity is being strengthened” during the struggle for the Essequibo. He indicated that since Commander Hugo Chavez was elected President, Venezuela has had constant aggressions, “more than 900 unilateral coercive measures that have impacted the country”, asserting that the “issue of the Guayana Esequiba is the search for another way to continue attacking.”
He emphasized that national unity is significant, as well as “not giving up the territorial integrity of the republic,” since Venezuela is a country besieged by other nations thanks to its oil and mineral reserves. “If we manage to certify all the gold that the Venezuelan people have in Venezuelan territory and the Guayana Esequiba, we can become one of the first gold reserves in the world,” he affirmed.
The discussion allowed the workers to learn about the most important historical points regarding the struggle for the Essequibo, reaffirming the position of the Venezuelan Government in defense of the territory, which has advocated for “gas and oil, and also the Atlantic outlet that leads directly to the international markets,” over the aggressions of the US Government.
Vice Minister Lidice Altuve warned that “this controversy is an expression of that neo-colonial legacy, which is not a thing of the past, which remains in history but continues to be today the anxieties and dispute of a hegemon and an empire for the plundering of our resources,” affirming that Venezuela has demonstrated through its peace diplomacy that this is the only way to resolve conflicts.
At the same time, he mentioned that the arguments created regarding the nation’s position, stating that “Venezuela is fighting with the people of Guyana,” are fallacies. On the contrary, he stated that “the Government of Guyana is a puppet of the interests of the gringos,” she emphasized that Venezuela does not refuse the development of the people, “we want the union of the peoples, of the great fatherland, and this is the doctrine that moves us at the international level.”
Closing the forum, Vice Minister Fernando Rodriguez pointed out that although they have requested the intervention of the Southern Command during the dispute over the Essequibo, “it is important to follow the call to have a united people with firm convictions on the reality of this historical controversy, and that the Essequibo belongs to us and there is historical evidence that proves it.”
